Like so many small businesses, we started with a need and a desire to improve a system that we were forced to work with everyday that did not perform as efficiently as we would like.

With the initial need of trying to improve a black oxide system we used in production everyday, we came upon not only an improvement but an entirely new approach to the process. Since almost everyone in the world who does black oxide finishing uses gas tube burners, we never thought out of the box. One evening, while we were sitting around the card table after work, we came up with the thought of using electricity for heating the salt bath, thereby decreasing one of the variables in our final black oxide finish. Easy we thought, others already provide an electrical heating system, right, well 2 years later, thousands of hours and untold dollars; we finally did create the best system ever made at a price you can afford and the performance that is unmatched. What started as a simple cure for our in-house processing became an awareness that not only were we not along in the world in black oxide processing problems, but we the norm. So, rather than keep the perfected system and design to ourselves, we chose to offer it to the world. We hope you will find this marvelous system as enjoyable to operate as we do.

We initially started with the need to improve our black oxide process to provide a higher quality finish to meet our customer’s demands. What we realized that there is many, many folks who could utilize a small batch black oxide system next to their existing larger system or simply wish to have the ability to do small batches of parts in a very quick, efficient manner. From major black oxide processing plants, firearm manufactures, gunsmiths, tool manufactures, hobbyist, knife makers, jewelers, fastener manufactures and so one can all benefit from our system. We hope to continue to grow Black Works into the mainstream of the industry, to become the industry leader in small to medium size black oxide processing systems.
